Where to watch the Europa League draw. Draws for different stages of the Champions League

One of the most exciting and anticipated events that takes place during the UEFA Champions League is the draw to determine which teams will take to the field to determine the current season's leader.

Rules qualifying rounds and draws are determined by the UEFA Organizing Committee for Governance and Compliance. The executive bodies of the association monitor the progress of the process and compliance with all norms and requirements.

Draws for different stages of the Champions League

The 2018-2019 Champions League season started on June 26, 2018 with the first match of the semi-finals. But the opening was preceded by preparatory procedures, including the first stage of the draw. All stages of this process are carried out directly at the headquarters of the union, which is called “House European football" It is located in Switzerland, in the suburb of Geneva - Nyon. Responsibility for organizing and conducting all stages of the procedure lies with Theodore Theodoridis, UEFA Secretary General.

All draws are carried out in three stages:

  • qualification;
  • group stage;
  • playoffs

The start of the draw started from the qualifying stage.

Qualification

This stage includes five rounds: preliminary, first, second, third and playoffs.

The draws for the above rounds took place on the following dates:

  • preliminary – June 12;
  • the first and second - June 19 (at the same moment);
  • third – July 23;
  • playoffs – August 6.

Starting from the second qualifying round, qualification is divided into two main areas: the League Representative Path and the Champion Path. The difference is this:

  • The Path of Champions includes teams that are domestic football champions in their country.
  • The League Representative Path includes clubs that are not national champions but are represented in the association rankings based on UEFA coefficient table performance.

Group stage

There are six draws during this stage, all of which will take place at the same time. This will happen in Monaco on August 30, 2018. During this process, all teams will be divided into eight different groups, each of which will include four clubs. The two winning teams will advance to the playoffs, and the third-place winner will advance to the 1/16 finals of the Europa League.

Playoffs

Although this stage is structurally divided into four rounds, the draw will only take place three times because the winners of the semi-final games will advance to the final. One of the semi-finals will be held on April 30 – May 1, 2019, and the second – on May 7-8, 2019.

For the remaining rounds of the 2018-2019 Football Champions League playoff stage, the draws will take place on the following dates:

  • 1/8 finals – December 17, 2018;
  • quarterfinals – March 15, 2019;
  • semi-finals – April 19, 2019.

There are certain conditions for the draw for the 1/8 finals of the Champions League:

  • teams from the same country and teams from the same group are not allowed to play in the same match;
  • group winners play matches with teams that received second place;
  • The first-place teams play the first matches of this stage away.

Champions League Final

After these matches, the draw for the quarter finals does not provide for any restrictions, that is, clubs can be representatives of the same country or association. After the quarter-finals, the semi-finals are held, and the final game, scheduled for June 1, 2019, will put an end to the 2018-2019 Football Champions League.

The venue will be the home stadium of the Spanish football club Atlético Madrid. This location was selected in advance with the participation of the UEFA commission among all applicant stadiums that submitted their applications in the prescribed manner. The Wanda Metropolitano stadium, located in Madrid, is open after reconstruction completed in 2017. The commission established compliance with all regulated requirements and the presence of five stars according to the UEFA rating.
